A Florida man has been arrested after he allegedly threatened President Donald Trump’s life in posts on social media.
The police department in Jupiter, Florida, announced the arrest of Glen DeCicco in a press release, noting that he has been charged with making written threats to kill. He was reportedly taken into custody without incident.
Police launched an investigation into DeCicco after they were contacted about concerning posts he made on Facebook. After reviewing DeCicco’s social media accounts, detectives confirmed that he had threatened Trump’s life.
In one post published on April 4, DeCicco wrote: “Winning strategy: buy QQQ, sell SQQQ today; shoot Trump tomorrow,” according to the New York Post. Another post read: “ass-ass-inate!”
As of April 8, the posts have been taken down.
These threats were especially concerning considering the fact that, just one day after DeCicco was arrested, Trump was scheduled to visit his National Golf Club in Jupiter for the Senior Club Championships, where he won his second-round matchup. If DeCicco had not been caught, there is a possibility he could have carried out his threats while Trump was visiting his hometown.
The Jupiter Police Department worked with the U.S. Secret Service throughout the investigation.
Secret Service Chief of Communications Anthony Guglielmi thanked the police for their “swift response & partnership.”
“Threats against @POTUS or any Secret Service protectee are taken very seriously. Our success often starts with tips from the public so please continue to report suspicious activity to police,” Guglielmi added.

This is just the latest in a long line of assassination threats and assassination attempts that Trump has faced in the past year, including Thomas Matthew Crooks’ infamous assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania that left one man dead, two injured, and the then-presidential candidate with a bullet wound in his ear. Ryan Routh, another would-be assassin who tried to kill Trump on his Florida golf course, is scheduled to face trial for his assassination attempt in September of this year.

There have been several other instances of people posting death threats against Trump on social media, including Kendal Aaron Todd, who posted to Trump that he wanted to “cut you up with a chainsaw and put you in acid.”
