Widow Laments After Illegal Alien Faces Only 1 Year For Killing Husband

A widow is speaking out about injustice after discovering that the 16-times-deported illegal alien who killed her husband in a car crash is facing a maximum sentence of one year in jail.

Illegal alien Ignacio Cruz-Mendoza  who was deported 16 times and somehow managed to reenter the U.S. and get a job as a truck driver — is facing one year in jail and a fine for causing a crash that killed a man earlier this summer while driving without a valid license.

The incident occurred on June 11 along Highway 285 near Bailey, Colorado, a small mountain town. According to the Colorado State Patrol, Cruz-Mendoza was driving a semi-truck going south when it suddenly veered off of the edge of the highway, rolled onto its side, and dumped the entire load of pipes and angle iron on top of five other vehicles on the road — leading to the closure of the very busy highway in both directions for roughly 14 hours. One of the vehicles was driven by Scott Miller, who died when the semi-truck slammed into his car. Another driver was reportedly seriously injured in the crash.

While American citizens would face much harsher charges, the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office charged Cruz-Mendoza with only misdemeanor traffic violations — including one count of careless driving resulting in death and three counts of careless driving resulting in injury. The illegal alien pleaded guilty to those charges during his arraignment in July, which prevented prosecutors from filing additional charges when they received more evidence from the crash investigation.

Miller’s widow, Deann Miller, spoke with local news station 9 News about the outrageous miscarriage of justice, stating: “I’m mad that I’m not going to get justice for my husband, mad because the most this man can get is a year for murdering my husband because the DA refused to charge him with more charge.”

“He should not have been behind the wheel of that truck, and he knew that, and he chose to do this,” she continued.

The widow then asked: “How many more people have to die on Colorado roads, on any road, before they start doing their job?”

“It makes me feel like they didn’t do their job,” she added. “They’re not doing their job. Who else is going to get these rogue truck drivers and these rogue trucking companies off the road if not the people we put in charge to make us safe.”

Past crashes and the resulting sentences prove that this was clearly a miscarriage of justice, as it is blatantly obvious that Democrat-controlled Colorado treats illegal aliens better than its own citizens. A truck driver in a nearby county over was sentenced to 16 years in prison earlier this year for a similar crash. Meanwhile, the same district attorney’s office in Jefferson County where Cruz-Mendoza is being charged prosecuted a truck driver who killed four people in a massive crash on Interstate 70, giving the driver a staggering 110-year sentence, which was ultimately reduced by the governor following outrage from fellow truckers.

The Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office is reportedly still investigating the trucking company that hired Cruz-Mendoza, Monique Trucking, as it has a history of violations that include hiring drivers without proper licenses.
