DOJ ATTACKED…He Just Sent the Letter

Texas Senator Ted Cruz is hauling the DOJ over the coals for suppression of free speech. He’s furiously demanding “access to all communications between the Department of Just Us and the American Medical Association.” The AMA isn’t an official rule making body, merely a club like the Elks, Kiwanis, or Rotarians. Still, they carry a lot of clout. They “asked” Gestapo General Merrick Garland to investigate and prosecute alleged “disinformation campaigns” against “gender-altering surgeries for minors.” Garland is zealous enough to do it.

Cruz defends free speech

Working late on Monday, Senator Cruz had his staff prepare a letter to GG Garland and they made sure to send Fox News a copy. In it, the Texas conservative firebrand accused the DOJ of a “continued pattern of abusing its investigative authority to police the speech of Americans and stifle ongoing policy debates.

The letter AMA wrote on October 3 “raises the possibility that the DOJ will try to act on that request by taking action against people who openly criticize gender-related surgeries.” Garland has pulled stunts like that before.

This request by advocacy organizations to have the federal government stifle critical speech on their behalf would have been unthinkable before your tenure as Attorney General.” Cruz then points out that Garland makes a regular habit of tromping on Constitutional rights.

For example, “Education Secretary Miguel Cardona invited a request from the National School Boards Association to ‘target parents‘ who were mad about efforts to teach critical race theory in school.” We all know how that turned out.

It’s awfully convenient, Cruz writes to Garland, “you issued your October 4th memorandum directing the FBI to involve itself in policing public discourse, using the NSBA letter as a pretext.

The Federal Bureau of Instigation started wiretapping phones of conservative parents. “In compliance with your memorandum, the FBI’s Counterterrorism and Criminal Divisions created the threat tag ‘EDUOFFICIALS,’ and opened dozens of investigations into the activities of concerned parents.

Protected free speech

Merrick Garland does not seem to understand that he, his department and the FBI they administer are all actually bound by the United States Constitution. He seems to think he really runs this country.

It is important to note that violence and threats are not protected speech and should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” Cruz acknowledges. “However, parents who voice their concerns about the health and safety of their children, or express opinions on matters of public policy more generally, are engaged in core First Amendment activity.

Now the medical profession is trying to get sneaky. As Fox reports, “the AMA, along with the Children’s Hospital Association and American Academy of Pediatrics, made a similar request this month.

The medical mafia wants Garland to take “swift action to investigate and prosecute” people involved in an “intentional campaign of disinformation” about “gender reassignment surgeries for minors.” That, Senator Cruz reminds, is chilling to free speech.

If there is a bedrock principle in American self-governance, it is that the federal government has no place in quashing or criminalizing civic discourse.” So what if people get into heated debate over the concept. That’s what makes America so great.

The issue of how best to treat minors struggling with their gender dysphoria is the subject of ongoing and emotional debate, which Americans have a protected First Amendment right to fully engage in.” Wrapping it up, Cruz concluded, “the strength of our democracy is dependent on the ability of all citizens to peacefully participate in public debate without fear of persecution from your agency or any other.
