Kevin McCarthy has kissed his beloved gavel goodbye. To get the Speaker of the House title, he made a whole bunch of deals with the responsible conservatives who flatly demand fiscal responsibility. He didn’t keep those promises. Instead, he caved in to join forces with the evil enemy Democrats. That was the final straw. His temporary replacement, Patrick McHenry, is living up to his patriotic moniker. His first official act was to kick Nancy Pelosi out of her office so he can have it.

Kevin McCarthy waves goodbye

Kevin McCarthy knew what would happen when he made a deal with Democrats to kick the budget can down the road another month and a half. We’ll only be going through the exact same madness for Thanksgiving. The only difference is that there will be a new House Speaker at the helm.

Right now, there’s no clear choice standing out for a replacement. The office isn’t sitting vacant, we have a Speaker pro tem. One who instantly scored some bonus brownie points with the conservative masses.

Until a replacement for Kevin McCarthy emerges from the dust of the scuffle, North Carolina Lawmaker Patrick McHenry will be wielding the House gavel like Thor.

His first official act was to evict California Senator Nancy Pelosi from her long held office space. To really rub it in, he sent her the order to move out while she was at the funeral for recently deceased Senator Dianne Feinstein. Pelosi is seriously miffed.

She didn’t have the grace to resign after she lost the speaker gavel, when the majority switched Republican. McCarthy picked it up but planned on telling the conservatives what they wanted to hear, then doing whatever he really wanted to do anyway. That didn’t work so we have a new speaker now. Instead of fading into the western sunset, Pelosi vowed to stick around like a booger on your finger.

She intends to inflict California’s wildly successful social programs on the rest of America. The Federal Building which bears her name in San Francisco was recently declared unsafe for Department of Health and Human Services staffers to work from. That’s because of the zombie infestation on the surrounding sidewalks. Nancy still pops in once in a while but her staff there get armed escorts in and out of the building each day.

Pelosi sent packing

Kevin McCarthy promises that since the gavel’s been ripped right out of his hand he’s not going to try and get it back. Until his replacement is picked Patrick McHenry will be doing the job. He wasted no time getting started. “Just after 6 p.m. Tuesday evening,” he sent Nancy an email. “Going to reassign h-132 for speaker office use. Please vacate the space tomorrow.” Watch me, Nancy responded.

Pelosi said in a statement that she was not in Washington, DC, to immediately move her belongings.” She won’t be packing the boxes anyway, she has staff for that, so it’s no excuse.

She couldn’t help fuming but knows McHenry has the power to do it. “With all of the important decisions that the new Republican Leadership must address, which we are all eagerly awaiting, one of the first actions taken by the new Speaker Pro Tempore was to order me to immediately vacate my office in the Capitol.

If McCarthy was bold enough to make moves like that, he wouldn’t be back in the rank and file. “Sadly, because I am in California to mourn the loss of and pay tribute to my dear friend Dianne Feinstein, I am unable to retrieve my belongings at this time.

She can’t do anything to stop it but made sure to add that “eviction is a sharp departure from tradition.” So what, McHenry grins. “As Speaker, I gave former Speaker Hastert a significantly larger suite of offices for as long as he wished. Office space doesn’t matter to me, but it seems to be important to them.

Now that the new Republican Leadership has settled this important matter, let’s hope they get to work on what’s truly important for the American people.” Like the big project McCarthy was afraid to tackle, trimming the federal budget down to something which is fiscally responsible.
