Within the context of dozens of social media coordinated flash-mob style outbreaks of looting, rioting, and vandalism sharp in the very recent memory of many Californians, Black Lives Matter activists made the particularly tone-deaf decision to hold a “smash and grab” in Beverly Hills December 23rd. The concept they propose is to “Smash White Capitalism” and “Grab Justice”, under the narrative that black people are “killed by white capitalism” because “white capitalism utilizes police violence to steal the lives of our people.”  The area proposed for this “demonstration” (read: civil disturbance) was the famous Rodeo Drive luxury shopping district of Beverly Hills, CA in front of Cartier.

ImageThe Post Millennial reported that the protest shut down the area for about two hours on one of the last shopping days before Christmas, potentially costing retailers tens of thousands of dollars in lost revenue by depriving them of crucial foot traffic.

“Today is a smash and grab. It is a different kind of smash and grab — don’t nobody go and grab Gucci purses, ok? We are smashing white capitalism and we are grabbing some justice. We are smashing and grabbing in the name of our people — we know that every year, the reason we do this is because our people are killed by white capitalism,” said Melina Abdullah, co-founder of the Black Lives Matter Los Angeles chapter.

Then Abdullah went for broke, painting capitalism with the brush of every possible ‘oppressor’ that BLM and Critical Race Theory can think of.

“We know white capitalism utilizes police violence to steal the lives of our people so that they can make a profit. So every year we celebrate Black Xmas to disrupt white supremacist patriarchal heteronormative capitalism,” Abdullah said. Cringe.

All in all, it’s kind of a strange flex to attack capitalism at the heart of Beverly Hills, where the system has done more to specifically benefit s0-called LGBTQ+ people, women, and Black Americans than arguably any other zip code in the country barring New York City. Think about it: Broadway and Hollywood.

So… What Was The ‘Smash & Grab’ Plan Here?

So let’s run this through, BLM LA decided to flex for attention, channeling their Antifa buddies low-T energy using a threatening and provocative term that inspires fear of looting, rioting, and arson to, in the end merely inconvenience one of the demographics who support them the most? What exactly was the game plan here? Scare people and then annoy them by creating a traffic jam for Christmas shoppers already aggravated by the rain?
