It doesn’t matter a whole lot who Gavin Newsom picked to replace suddenly deceased Senator Dianne Feinstein. So, he picked a black lesbian, Emily’s list President Laphonza Butler.
A temporary senator
Laphonza Butler will now be a U.S. Senator, replacing Dianne Feinstein, “who died last week at the age of 90.” Gavin Newsom announced the news late in the day on Sunday, October 1.
The appointment will last through the end of Feinstein’s term next year. There’s already a hot race for the seat heating up as Adam Schiff is ready to fight it out cage-match style with Barbara Lee and Katie Porter for the job.
The Washington Post is already predicting that the 2024 race for California’s next senator “is likely to be the most expensive congressional race in the nation next year.”

Kamala Harris is scheduled to take time away from her important mission of stomping out gun violence on October 3 to swear Butler in. They’re expecting Butler to vote exactly how she’s told to vote, which will “help Democrats retain their narrow control of the Senate.”
As part of his official announcement on X, Newsom made sure to point out that “Butler will make history as the first openly lesbian Black woman to serve in the U.S. Senate.”
He hopes there will be many, many more. She deserves to be a senator, he assures, because “Laphonza has spent her entire career fighting for women and girls and has been a fierce advocate for working people.”
What’s right for the left
Newsom was also quick to note that she’s always been one to fight for what’s right, in the eyes of left-wing progressives. “From her time as President of EMILY’s List to leading the state’s largest labor union, she has always stood up for what is right and has led with her heart and her values.” Fighting fiercely for mob rule Democracy has proven her skills.
“I have no doubt she will carry the baton left by Senator Feinstein, continue to break glass ceilings, and fight for all Californians in Washington.” She can be expected to hold the line against all those deplorable Republicans.
It’s interesting to note that the new California senator actually lives in Maryland. It’s okay, Newsom insists, because she’s “a former Los Angeles resident.” Even though she maintains her primary residence out of state, Butler “she has been a California homeowner since 2011.”
It’s Official!

She rents it out to a family of migrants. A spokesperson assures the public that she’s scrambling to patch up her residency requirements, pronto.
By “mid-morning Monday,” Butler had “already re-registered to vote in California.” The whole team is confidant that “Ms. Butler is fully compliant” with the requirements to serve as the Golden State’s senator “and ready to serve the people of California.” She has everything all worked out to “live in Los Angeles after she is sworn in Tuesday.” She’s happy to move back to “a state I have long called home.”
The job is so lucrative, no matter what the paychecks are, she couldn’t pass it up. “For women and girls, for workers and unions, for struggling parents waiting for our leaders to bring opportunity back to their homes, for all of California, I’m ready to serve.” She can’t wait to be bringing fat stacks back into her home. Maybe she can get some of those Kilo weight gold bars, like Bob Menendez.
