Trump ally and former adviser Steve Bannon just about set the world on fire recently.
Bannon suggested that Trump run for office again in 2028 because the 22nd Amendment on term limits is missing the word “consecutive.”
For those of you who would like to see a third term by Trump, don’t get too excited because it will not happen.
Third Term
I am not sure if Bannon was serious or not when he said this, but some cleanup was done after the fact.
Bannon stated, “The viceroy Mike Davis tells me since it doesn’t actually say consecutive that, I don’t know, maybe we do it again in ’28? Are you guys down for that? Trump ’28?”
Davis replied after the fact, stating that Bannon was “obviously trolling” and “only Obama gets a third term, with his puppet Biden.”
The 22nd Amendment is quite clear that no one person can run for more than two terms, even stating that if they assume the role from someone else, such as a president stepping down or dying in office, if that person serves more than two years of that term, they can only serve one additional term.
Something tells me this was a troll by Bannon, calling Mike Davis the viceroy, which refers to royalty, meaning the crown, which Democrats often say Trump likens himself to.
Either way, I think this was a mistake by Bannon because we all know how the media and Democrats will treat this.
I would hope everyone stops playing games once Trump takes office and they get down to business.
The GOP has two years to impress voters to keep the House and the Senate.
If they play games, and we lose either chamber, Trump becomes a lame duck, all but sealing a victory for the Dems in the 2028 election.
Everything is riding on these first two years, so please don’t poke the bear unnecessarily.
