An exclusive report from CNN revealed that first lady Jill Biden allegedly “pressured” President Joe Biden to pardon his son, Hunter Biden, who is her stepson.
According to a Sunday report from CNN reporter Jeff Zeleny, the president was under “pressure” from “inside the family” to pardon his son.
Zeleny further explained that there was “clearly” some “pressure inside the family, we were told—really in recent weeks that Dr. Jill Biden, First Lady Jill Biden was really supportive of the President doing something like this. The President was not sure.”

“So we were told that this sort of came to a head this weekend and this is why President Biden decided now to do this,” the CNN reporter added.
Zeleny went on to reference “the kind of conversation that has been going on really inside the family. I’m told this has been very much a family discussion and not something that has been widely shared or discussed as a policy matter inside the West Wing. But there was a worry of future prosecutions or future potential of what the incoming Trump Justice Department could do.”

While most were not surprised by the pardon, Biden and other White House officials have repeatedly stated in strong terms that the president would not be pardoning his son — claiming that he valued the rule of law and the decision of jurors in regards to Hunter Biden’s conviction on federal gun charges in June and his guilty plea to tax evasion charges in September. Hunter’s sentencing for both cases were scheduled for the coming weeks, where he would have been facing several years in prison.
Despite this promise, Biden appeared to have changed his mind. However, the pardon was even more broad than many expected. The shocking decision covers all federal crimes from 2014 to December 1, 2024 — which alarmed many people who pointed out that the pardon was signed on the morning of December 1, essentially giving Hunter an entire day to commit any other crimes.
The dates of this pardon are especially significant considering the fact that “In 2014, Hunter sat on the board of Ukrainian energy giant Burisma and earned $80,000 per month for his service, despite not knowing much about energy. There have been accusations that he failed to register as a foreign agent, in violation of FARA laws, and that he was engaged in selling influence with his father,” according to Breitbart News.
Jill Biden’s role in the pardon is not confirmed, though she was asked about it during the White House Christmas party, where she stated: “Of course I support the pardon of my son.”
