On August 21st, 3P Fitness, short for Pace Patriot Pride Fitness in Pace, Florida, held their third annual “Whiskey 9” Hero Workout of the Day or WOD in honor of two fallen Green Berets, Master Sgt. Luis F DeLeon-Figueroa and Master Sgt. Jose J. Gonzalez. Both gave their last full measure of devotion to their nation on the Afghanistan battlefield during Operation Freedom’s Sentinel in combat operations in Faryab province, Afghanistan along the border with Turkmenistan. MilitaryTimes.com reported, “Both soldiers were assigned to 7th Special Forces Group at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida. They were posthumously promoted to master sergeant.” Check out these amazing photos.
According to the event page, “The Honor Foundation is a transformative program to help U.S. Special Operations Forces navigate the career transition from elite warrior to civilian leader and find honor and purpose in their civilian careers.” The annual event is led by Joey Paladino, owner of CrossFit Pace Patriot Pride
The Pensacola News Journal wrote,
“Participants work their bodies to the max during the 3rd annual Whiskey 9 hero WOD (Workout of the Day) Saturday, August 21, 2021 at 3P Fitness in Pace honoring the lives of American heroes, Master Sgt Jose Gonzales and Master Sgt Luis F. Deleon-Figueroa, who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country in Afghanistan on August 21st of 2019.”
3P Fitness described the event beautifully via their Instagram:
“Hero WODs are always special days, but this one in particular means the world to us.
This workout was created by gym owner, Joey, and his Special Forces teammates to honor 2 of their own who made the ultimate sacrifice in Afghanistan in 2019.
We will never forget MSgt Gonzales and MSgt Deleon-Figueroa🇺🇸
Thank you to everyone who took the time to honor their memory with “Whiskey 9″ today- whether you were able to join us or if you did it at your home gym, we appreciate you honoring their sacrifice with us.”
