NY Cops Stand Down as Trump Arrest Case Falters

As soon as word illegally leaked out that the arrest of former president Donald Trump was imminent, the NYPD went on high alert and erected anti-protest barricades. After a solid week of no activity, the Grand Jury got back to work. Even though they haven’t reached a decision to bring charges, the city canceled an order to have all cops on deck and standing by.

Trump case falters

The New York state case against Donald Trump isn’t going nearly as smooth as District Attorney Alvin Bragg anticipated. After giving the Grand Jury a full week off, while he figured out his next move, he hauled his key witness back on the stand. Pundits say the gambit won’t pay off.

Even if the Grand Jury were to return an indictment, legal scholars claim it won’t stick because Bragg is a state prosecutor with no authority to prosecute federal crimes, like the one he’s trying to create out of thin air.

It’s telling that “heightened concerns over potentially violent protests in the wake of the attack on the U.S. Capitol last year also appear to have eased a bit.” NBC was hoping for some good old fashioned Trump inspired insurrection.

They talked to a pair of “senior police officials” on Monday, March 27, who told them “an NYPD order directing all officers report for duty in uniform in case of a possible indictment or related protest chaos was rescinded.

The news mostly worked to fire up the deplorable base, who turned out in droves to hear Trump speak in Waco, Texas. Meanwhile, the NYPD “continues to monitor events in Lower Manhattan.” Network news is forced to report that “protest activity has been largely muted in the absence of any movement on the case.

That’s because everyone is beginning to realize that the prosecutor is in over his head. He’s on a deep sea fishing expedition and could end up as bait.

Indictment any time

When Bragg showed up at the office Monday morning, he refused to talk to reporters. That indicates he has nothing to gloat about. Local reporters got word through the grapevine that “security plans were in development in the event an indictment could come as early as last week.

Everyone went into total panic because Donald Trump blew the cover off his secret kangaroo court by publicly announcing his impending arrest.

Before that, apparently nobody told Bragg that even a felony indictment can’t stop Trump from running in 2024. He could be convicted and sitting in a jail cell and still get sworn back in to office.

Another thing nobody told Bragg was that he’s exceeding his authority. Even worse, the federal prosecutors who did have that authority decided there was no case to charge him with.

The last witness they heard from was Trump backing Robert Costello who “who sought to discredit key prosecution witness Michael Cohen, Trump’s former attorney and fixer.” Cohen is “totally unreliable” and nothing but a liar. The once and future president took last week’s silence in Manhattan as a sign that Bragg doesn’t have a case.

Bragg has been pushing back hard on all the criticism flying at him from all sides. Someone went way over the top by mailing a threatening letter filled with “white powder.” It’s probably Stevia and probably came from a liberal trying to start trouble for conservatives.
