A WSAZ reporter in West Virginia, Tori Yorgey set the standard for some street-journalist grit on January 19th when during what is called a ‘stand-up’ in the industry along the snow slicked roadside, somewhat ironically reporting on the slippery conditions, and was HIT BY A CAR mid-broadcast, smacking into her camera and hitting the ground. But Tori kept rolling without missing a beat! She kept reporting, immediately informing her audience and stunned anchor that she was alright and even sweetly reassuring the driver that she was fine and they needn’t be worried. Check out the video below and just, let’s take a minute to admire somebody who is doing it right, showing some serious professionalism and grace under fire.
Local Rising Star Isn’t Even Stopped By An Oncoming Car
“Oh my gosh, I got hit by a car! But I’m okay. I just got hit by a car but I’m okay Tim. We’re all good. I’m okay. Yeah you know that’s live TV for you. It’s all good. I actually got hit by a car in college too just like that. Wow! I am so glad I’m okay. Yeah, you’re okay, you’re okay we’re all good. This is uh oh you know what it’s a one-woman band. You’re okay! We’re good Tim. ” -Tori Yorgey, seconds after being hit by a car mid-broadcast.
Tori noted laughingly after the incident that she is actually on her last week with WSAZ and found humor that this would happen to her just then.
“You know this is my last week on the job and I think this would happen specifically to me Tim!”
Tori had tweeted earlier the same day regarding a different story of a fire rescue prior to her accident, but her viewers, friends and colleagues responded to this tweet after the collision with an outpouring of support.
Just saw a video of your live shot. So so sorry that happened to you!!! You did incredible by somehow keeping it together, MMJing like a badass, and finding words after being hit.
It looked like a really hard hit, so please get checked out to make sure you’re ok. You’re amazing.— Tiffany Alaniz (@TiffanyAlaniz) January 20, 2022
Eva Anderson of KARE 11 News Tweeted her writing,
“I hope you are okay emotionally, as well as physically, after what happened today. You handled yourself with such composer. Please get some good rest tonight!! Another MMJ, sending love from Minneapolis!”
According to The Today Show, who covered the incident for a segment, Yorgey was alone in the field with no photojournalist and impressively went on to finish her report on the slippery road conditions in Dunbar, West Virginia. They also reported that Tori did go to the hospital after, was checked out, and is doing just fine. Hopefully, Tori is on to greater things in her career. The grit, work ethic, and determination she showed will serve her well.
