Donald Trump is already setting the table for what leadership in the party will look like if he is re-elected president.
The turnaround in the McConnell-Trump relationship is rather stunning.
The two were once quite chummy, but now Trump wants him out.

McConnell did not support Trump on the election being rigged and he surely did not back Trump on January 6.
McConnell saw the opportunity to turn people against Trump with that riot and he took it.
On the other end of this, McConnell has sided with Biden on several occasions, completely betraying his conservative base.
To that point, Trump stated, “It’s crazy what’s happening with this debt ceiling.
“Mitch McConnell keeps allowing it to happen.
“I mean, they ought to impeach Mitch McConnell if he allows that.
“Frankly, something has to be — they have something on him.
“How he approves this thing is incredible.”
Trump has also stated that if he wins, there is no way McConnell will be the senate leader, even though he has zero say in that.
It will be up to Senators to vote McConnell out.
Having said that, I don’t think McConnell is up for the battle of battling Trump for four years.
So, while I doubt he will resign, I do believe that McConnell would step back as the senate leader and open the door for someone else to take over.
