Katie Couric has now got some tremendous insider info to reveal about CNN’s Jeff Zucker. It will blow the lid off…
Couric is still speaking out about Mr. Zucker after he resigned as president of CNN Worldwide.
Earlier, OKI reported that the CNN chief, 56, had announced his resignation on Wednesday, February 2nd after he explained how he had failed to report the “consensual relationship” with Allison Gollust, who currently is employed as the Chief Marketing Officer for CNN.
It was just one day after that when Couric, 65, decided to address the situation herself. She admitted in her “Wake-Up Call” newsletter that she had previously “wondered” about the nature of Zucker and Gollust’s relationship, according to People.
“I worked with Jeff Zucker for many years at NBC and later on my talk show,” the journalist allegedly wrote. “He was a talented and energetic producer. His resignation took me by surprise. I’ve also known Allison Gollust since my days at the Today show.” (This is due in part to the fact that Zucker used to work as President and CEO of NBC Universal before he his tenure at CNN began)
Predictably, the news media was all abuzz in regards to the affair, with headlines such as “CNN’S TWO MOST SENIOR EXECUTIVES ENDED THEIR MARRIAGES AFTER ALLEGED ROMANTIC AFFAIR, ‘COZY ARRANGEMENT’ COMPLICATES CHRIS CUOMO’S FIRING SCANDAL: REPORT.”
“I’ve wondered about the nature of their relationship, but I do know, as I wrote in my memoir Going There, that it made me uncomfortable. It seems their colleagues and the media at large turned a blind eye to inappropriate behavior,” she continued, according to the outlet.
Couric’s bombshell personal memoir was released in October 2021, and she claimed that Zucker had “made a huge push to bring on Allison Gollust,” for a position at NBC Universal.
“When we worked together at NBC, she and Jeff cooked up even bolder ways to draw attention to Today and later Jeff himself when he moved to Entertainment,” she wrote. “They were joined at the hip.”
However, Couric quickly went on to explain what the situation at NBC Universal entailed.
She enumerated one of the main problems, which was that they had already hired an individual to do all of the PR for their show. Thus, there really wasn’t a role for Allison.
“Jeff asked me to meet with her anyway,” Katie Couric recalled.
It was also in these memoir pages that Couric was wondering just why it was that Zucker was angling so hard to bring her on board. Couric was quick to point out in those pages that Gollust and her then-husband and kids at the time had moved into the apartment above which Zucker had at one time shared with his wife Caryn Nathanson and their four children before they split up in 2018.
“Everyone who heard about the cozy arrangement thought it was super strange,” Couric added in her book. “By that point, Caryn had become a close friend and it made me really uncomfortable.”
Zucker issued a statement on Wednesday where he described how he had been asked about a consensual relationship he had with a person that he “had worked with for more than 20 years” as part of the investigation into Chris Cuomo’s harassment scandal at the beleaguered network.
“I acknowledged the relationship evolved in recent years,” Zucker stated. “I was required to disclose it when it began but I didn’t. I was wrong. As a result. I am resigning today.”
Gollust herself issued a statement where she insisted that the romantic relationship with Zucker began “recently” although there have been many individuals, including Katie Couric, who felt that the affair had been ongoing for years.
