Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) is once again criticizing his own party, this time arguing that Democrats destroyed their chances in the recent election because they “lost” themselves on the issues most important to the American people.
The Democrat senator expressed his criticisms for the party during an interview on Fox News Channel’s “Fox News Sunday,” reflecting on the Democrat Party’s devastating loss that saw President-elect Donald Trump winning every swing state, the Electoral College, and the popular vote — along with Republicans retaining their majority in the House and taking back the Senate.
Fetterman pointed out that one of the most important issues that Democrats failed to address to the satisfaction of the American people in the border crisis — arguing that they should have found a middle ground between supporting immigration and border security. Polls indicate that the American people support border security and even mass deportation, in direct conflict with the Democrats’ positions on the issue.
🚨Boom! A majority of Americans (57-43%) favor President Trump's plan to deport ALL illegal migrants. Suck it @GovofCO & @MikeJohnstonCO pic.twitter.com/l6E81veZ92

“Well, one area where we kind of lost ourselves was the border,” Fetterman explained. “And I’ve been on this network, you know, months, months ago saying, ‘Hey, you know, it can’t be controversial for our party to have pro-immigration [views], but we need a secure border.’”
He went on to point out that the Democrats made a serious mistake by demanding that the American people ignore what they saw with their own eyes about the hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens flooding the country per month.
“I’ve tried to describe – you have up to 300,000 encounters per month,” Fetterman said. “And I put that in perspective with Pennsylvania. I’m like, that’s the size of Pittsburgh showing up in one month. It’s like, what’s going to happen for those folks? If we want them [to have] the American Dream for those people, how can we possibly deliver that? Where do they go? And we can’t pretend that that’s not a significant issue. And we got to address that.”
Fetterman also suggested that the party lost its way when it came to the issue of the Israel-Hamas war. The Democrat senator has been a vocal supporter of Israel, which runs contrary to the far-left of the party which is pro-Palestine and even outright pro-Hamas — though there is still a significant portion of the party that is pro-Israel, leading to a conflict for politicians that needed to court both factions of the party to win their elections.
“I said I was going to follow Israel,” he said. “And since they refused to have that cease-fire, they have eliminated and broken Hamas, and Hezbollah, Hezbollah was supposed to be like the ultimate bada—es in the Middle East, and now they were a bunch of Keystone Cops, and Iran has just been exposed, as you know, they really can’t fight about anything. So that’s been a significant development here.”
