Garland

Garland Grilled Like 4th of July BBQ

Merrick Garland spent a grueling four hours on the witness stand on Wednesday. Described as “contentious,” the hearing was a clear example of the fireworks still in store for the Just Us Department head.

Garland grilled for hours

One by one, republican Senators took a turn hauling Merrick Garland over the hot coals. They had some sharply pointed questions about the “two-tier” system of justice and why it takes a whole swat team to arrest a street preacher.

New York Times relates that they “also rebuked Mr. Garland over a range of policy and law enforcement issues, including his response to the fentanyl and immigration crises as well as the court’s decision in June to end the constitutional right to an abortion.

Things got really intense at the end of the session. During the final 20 minutes, Democrats were called elsewhere and left Garland to fend for himself as best he could. After a steady three-and-a-half hours of intense grilling, he was almost ready to snap.

That’s when the conservatives started hammering him about “his actions in the investigations involving Mr. Trump as well as the inquiries into Mr. Biden and his son Hunter.

Tennessee Senator Marsha Blackburn fired up her blowtorch before quizzing “You have one tier of justice for people that are conservatives and another for those that are on the left.” That wasn’t as much a question as a point-blank accusation. She already knew the answer to it, no matter what Garland could stammer in response.

The Times notes, until then “lawmakers had mostly steered away from pressing about multiple investigations into top officials.” As soon as the Democrats slithered away, the Republicans took off the gloves. They were only a step away from beating him with a phone book.

Trump v Biden

Texas Senator Ted Cruz locked in on the stark difference between the way the FBI protects the Biden family while persecuting Donald Trump at the same time.

Your intention — and I believe it’s a political intention — to indict President Trump, became infinitely harder when classified documents were discovered repeatedly at President Biden’s multiple residences,” Cruz declared. Garland just squirmed and quivered.

Cruz also accused the DOJ of “intentionally leaking details of the Trump investigations to embarrass the former president while keeping secret the investigation into Mr. Biden until after the 2022 midterm elections.

Then, Josh Hawley got a whack. By the time the hearing was over, Garland felt like a pinata.

Hawley wanted to know about all the “infighting” at the FBI. It seems that not all the agents were happy about the orders to raid Mar-a-Lago, “clashing with their superiors at the bureau and other Justice Department officials.” Garland gulped like a fish and said he can’t talk about open investigations. Okay then, South Carolina’s Lindsey Graham chimed in. Tell us about why we have such a fentanyl crisis. Don’t try to tell us the border is secure when so much comes across.

This is a war — act like it — do something,” Graham thundered. “So, 106,000 people die from drug overdoses — 70,000 from fentanyl last year — it’s getting worse. The leading cause of death for Americans age 18 to 45 is death by fentanyl poisoning. What are we doing?” Setting up an app so illegal aliens have to have an appointment before jumping the border.
