Female homeowner shoots intruder after he refused to follow her orders to leave

A female homeowner stopped a would-be burglar in his tracks, shooting him after he refused to follow her order to leave her home.

The Harrison County Sheriff’s Office reports that a burglar forced his way into a residence in Longview, Texas in the 1500 block of Juanita Road around 8 p.m. on March 4th.

But the problem for the intruder wasn’t the cops, it was the woman inside, who was armed with a gun.

According to the authorities, the female homeowner said she ordered the man to leave her home, but he refused. Fearing for her safety, she fired one shot, striking the intruder, the sheriff’s office reports.

Deputies who arrived at the scene found the burglar wounded by a single gunshot and determined that the shooting had occurred while he was committing a burglary.

The man was then transported to Longview Regional Hospital, then later brought to a hospital in Tyler, according to the sheriff’s office.

On the morning of March 5th, law enforcement obtained an arrest warrant for burglary of habitation with intent to commit assault, the sheriff’s office reports, adding that the suspect was arrested as soon as he was released from the Tyler hospital.

The suspect, who has been identified as 30 year old Matthew Dillon George, was booked into Smith County Jail on Sunday, March 6th, according to reporting by the Longview News-Journal, who cited jail records, which also indicated that his bond was set at $50,000.

Harrison County Sheriff Brandon Fletcher — who told the local news outlet that George would be extradited from Smith County — said: “This entire incident is an excellent example of the importance of our Second Amendment. I am thankful the homeowner was unharmed but also thankful the suspect in this episode will now face his consequences through the judicial system; it could have ended a lot worse.”
