In a post on X, a prominent Democrat admitted that Vice President Kamala Harris has lost voters because of her anti-Trump messaging.
Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN), who ran against President Joe Biden in this year’s primary, has admitted that Harris has been “losing voters” because she has focused her campaign too heavily on anti-Trump messaging rather than promoting herself and her policy plans.
Harris, like most Democrats, is obsessed with attacking former President Donald Trump, often to the detriment of her own campaign. It appears that tearing down her opponent is more important to her than explaining to the American people why they should choose her over Trump — which is fine for the majority of Democrats, as they have become so radicalized by the anti-Trump messaging that they would vote for whoever is running against Trump, regardless of policies or campaign messaging. However, unfortunately for Harris, this is not good enough for independents (or even some Democrats) — as they have been demanding that Harris actually explain her plans in order to earn their vote.
Phillips explained this phenomenon in a post on X, where he argued that Harris is “losing voters” over her fervent anti-Trump messaging.
“A billion dollars will have been wasted on losing voters by condemnation versus winning them by invitation,” he wrote. “She just needed to be clear about what she believes, what she will do differently than Biden, and offer common sense solutions to our problems.”
His post also included a nod to a screenshot of a recent New York Times headline, where he concluded his post with the word “Instead…” then highlighted the article title: “Starring in Kamala Harris’ closing argument: Donald Trump.”
The article discussed a shift in Harris’ messaging that attempted to paint Trump as unfit for office and an “unserious man.”

Unlike Harris and Biden, Phillips ran a more moderate presidential campaign that focused on the issues, rather than fearmongering about Trump. However, he was unsuccessful because the Democrat National Committee (DNC) shut down his efforts to primary Biden, making it extremely difficult for him to campaign and causing him to end his candidacy.
Meanwhile, social media users appeared to agree with Phillips’ post, with many pointing out that the focus anti-Trump messaging has turned off independent voters.
“I don’t think she or her campaign realize how many independent voters they have alienated by refusing to answer direct questions about where she actually stands on important issues. It’s really disappointing. The sneering condescension of her surrogates doesn’t help either,” one user wrote.

“Very true, Dean. They’re running exclusively on ‘Trump bad’ and that’s not going to be enough,” another user wrote.
