A California couple was rescued from their remote cabin after being trapped for two months due to heavy snow thanks to a series of severe winter storms.
The couple had been trapped in their cabin since December 6th after a series of severe winter storms left several feet of snow in the higher elevations of Northern California’s Sierra Nevada mountains.
Even without the snow, the only roads leading away from the cabin were blocked by several trees that had been knocked down by the storms.
When the couple realized that their supplies were starting to dwindle, they contacted the Sierra County Sheriff’s Office for help.
As the roads were blocked, the sheriff’s office had no way to reach the cabin, so they reached out to the California Highway Patrol’s Valley Division Air Operations, who dispatched a helicopter to rescue the couple.
Despite dangerous high winds in the area, the helicopter was able to safely land near the cabin, and the rescue crew was then able to evacuate the couple and their dog to a safe location.
