An actor most known for their role in ‘Country Strong’ has been arrested, and new details continue to emerge regarding this incident. Life does indicate art.
It was in 2010 that Tim McGraw and Gwyneth Paltrow teamed to play the married couple James and Kelly Canter for the hit movie Country Strong. They were joined by the up-and-coming entertainers Leighton Meester and Garrett Hedlund with the role of country stars.
In the movie, their characters were opening up for the mega-famous country singer Kelly Cantor, who was Gwyneth Paltrow’s character, who was on a comeback tour after she had left rehab early. Cantor’s career is a composition of both Faith Hill and Shania Twain and the popularity those two had in their prime. Her downfall isn’t a comparison to any country star due to her alcoholism, and Tim McGraw also plays her manager who has taken her out of rehab to perform on a country-wide tour even though she wasn’t ready to start up now.
It was during this film that Paltrow had the opportunity to debut her singing talent, as did Hedlund and Meester. They praised Paltrow for her performance because this was the music for the film. The song “Coming Home” was nominated for a litany of awards, including an Oscar and a Golden Globe.
Unfortunately, it was on Sunday, January 23rd that TMZ reported that one of the stars of Country Strong had been arrested for Public Intoxication in Franklin County. Tennessee. Garrett Hedlund was released on a $2,100 bond and is due back in court in March.
Hedlund’s arrest came just days after he announced that he and his longtime girlfriend, actress Emma Roberts, had gone their separate ways.
The Country Strong actor and his girlfriend are planning on co-parenting their son Rhodes Robert Hedlund, born on December 27, 2020.
It was a few days after the arrest that TMZ obtained some legal documentation showing some new details about the arrest. The publication described how police had gotten a call at about 10:30 P.M. from a man that was claiming that Hedlund was banging on the door of a building. Once the police arrived, they took a report where Hedlund was claiming that he had left some personal items in the building and wanted them back. The problem was that the actor allegedly smelled of alcohol and was slurring his speech. Hedlund was also not following basic commands, so the police wrote in their report that they believed Hedlund might be “a danger to himself and others.”
The man who called the police said that Hedlund had been trying to punch him and had even attempted to jump out of a moving vehicle earlier in the day.
He told the police that he didn’t want to press charges for those actions.
Sad to say, this is not the first time that Hedlund has had issues with alcohol. The Country Strong actor is currently being sued because of a January 2020 incident where he had passed out and crashed into a car that had a woman and her three kids. He was arrested for DUI that same night and they placed him on three years of probation. There is a possibility that his latest arrest could cause issues with his probation officer.
One can only hope that things will work themselves out for Hedlund, starting with him getting the help that he needs. Luckily, he and Tim McGraw appear to be close friends, with the latter being the godfather to Hedlund’s young child. Hopefully, McGraw can also lend a helping hand to the Country Strong actor.
