Breaking: Mass Casualty Event

Tragedy has struck a local community in New York on Thursday afternoon, November 2. A fatal accident occurred when a gas line was struck during routine maintenance, causing a gas explosion at the Village of Wappingers Falls.

The blast injured more than a dozen people and destroyed the home. This is a developing story.

Ten civilians and five first responders were injured in the accident. Of these, three were airlifted to Westchester Medical Center for treatment, including one child and two adults.

The other victims were taken to local hospitals by ambulance. Thankfully no deaths have been reported yet.

Governor Kathy Hochul released a statement that she had deployed state emergency services personnel to assist with the response efforts. She urged all New Yorkers to follow the direction of law enforcement and other first responders working in order to keep their community safe and asked everyone to pray for Wappingers Falls.

Central Hudson also took action after cutting electric and natural gas service to the immediate area at 1:30 p.m., which remained off Thursday evening as well. Investigations are still ongoing on whether all victims have been cleared out of rubble or not.

The building affected by this incident was a multi-family brick structure with both basement and two floors attached as well. According to officials ,the infrastructure present in some homes dates back as early as 1930s or 1940s.

This highlights how old pipelines can be dangerous if not maintained properly on regular intervals.
