Gunmen in vehicles opened fire near the border, killing at least 18 people in a mass shooting and causing widespread panic among the residents of Reynosa, Mexico.
Security forces responded to the scene and killed four suspects, including one who died near a border bridge. The attacks began in the afternoon on June 19 in multiple neighborhoods in Reynosa, which borders McAllen, Texas. Images posted to social media show bodies in the streets.
Among those killed were taxi drivers, workers, and a nursing student, according to The Washington Post.
“It’s not fair,” said taxi driver Rene Guevara, noting that two of his fellow taxi drivers were among those killed. He also defended them, saying that they were not involved in crime.
“They killed him in cold blood, he and two of his companions,” said Olga Ruiz, whose 19-year-old brother Fernando Ruiz was killed, adding that the shooting occurred where her brother, a plumber and bricklayer, was fixing a drain.
The governor of the Mexican state of Tamaulipas, Francisco García Cabeza de Vaca, has condemned the loss of “innocent civilian” lives and has vowed to uncover the motive for the attack. The area is largely dominated by the Gulf Cartel, but recent reports indicate fracturing within the group since 2017 over control of key territories for drug and human trafficking.
According to reporting by Komo News, “The Mexican army, National Guard, state police and other agencies mobilized after the shootings. During the security sweep, authorities said they detained a person who had two women, apparently kidnapped, in the trunk of his car. They also seized three vehicles.”
As Reynosa is a common border crossing point for illegal immigrants, this is exactly what the Democrats’ are trying to let happen in the United States. An open border means that these criminals can cross over and begin these mass shootings in the U.S. without fear of being deported, considering the left refuses to deport even the worst of criminal illegal immigrants.
