After making their dramatic exit from the royal family, now Meghan Markle and her husband Harry have been slapped by the high court. Things didn’t end there, though, as now the “super woke” couple is suffering a less than favorable financial situation.
In August 2018, the former “Suits” actress took legal action against the Associated Newspapers Limited (ANL), who own The Mail on Sunday for illegally publishing a private letter to her father Thomas Markle.
This didn’t go over well with British press who accused Meghan of leaking the letter herself. After an appeal to the U.K High Court, ANL was found guilty for invading Ms. Markle’s privacy by printing her letter and was ordered to pay just £1 ($1.30) in settlement, as reported by Breitbart.
Although Associated Newspapers Limited will have to pay her legal fees, this small settlement speaks volumes about how the public perceives Meghan and Harry’s reputation- especially after they broke away from royal duties in January 2020 only for Buckingham Palace to release a statement saying they would not be returning “as working members of The Royal Family.”
Adding fuel to their already burning fire is their charitable foundation Archewell which has been mired in controversy since its launch due to family divisions as well as criticism over their use of opaque Delaware corporations reported Daily Mail. Documents uncovered by Daily Mail revealed that Harry and Megan had raised less than $50,000 (£37,000) in 2020- significantly lower than what one would expect from an organization that claims to help people around the world.
Furthermore, legal expenses exceeded donations leading many people including lawyer Mark Stephens question whether or not there was any strength behind their case at all.
It wasn’t long before Queen Elizabeth made it clear she wanted nothing more do with them when she banned them from using “royal” in branding anymore forcing them change organization’s name MWX Foundation according to reports from multiple sources.
Even though they are no longer part of royalty, public opinion has become increasingly negative towards couple as Charlie Rae wrote for Sun that both had reached zero net approval rating.
