Just when we thought CNN couldn’t sink any further, one of their hosts went on a drunken rant on live television, and the channel has announced that he will not be fired for it.
While Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper were hosting CNN’s New Year’s Eve countdown, Cohen had apparently had a few too many drinks.
Cohen did not mince words as he told viewers of CNN’s “New Year’s Eve Live” his feelings about former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, who was replaced by Mayor Eric Adams as the ball dropped, ringing in the new year.
Leaning in to the camera as Anderson Cooper literally tried to hold him back by his jacket at several different moments during the drunken rant, Cohen unloaded on the ex-mayor, ignoring Cooper’s pleas to not “go on a rant.”
“Let me tell you something,” he began. “Watching Mayor de Blasio do his victory lap dance after four years of the crappiest term as the mayor of New York, the only thing that Democrats and Republicans can agree on is what a horrible mayor he has been. So, sayonara sucker!”
The next part appeared to be directed at de Blasio himself.
“2022, it’s a new year, because guess what? I have a feeling I’m going to be standing right here next year, and you know who I’m not going to be looking at dancing as the city comes apart? You!” Cohen said.
The drunken rant was so hilarious that even the leftist “late night comedy” shows had to play it on their shows. Seth Meyers shared the clip on his Twitter account, writing: “Andy Cohen kicked off 2022 right.”

Of course, a lot of leftist media refused to talk about the controversial statements, instead opting to discuss the only “safe” part of Cohen’s drunken rant that occurred that night: his rant about Ryan Seacrest and ABC News.
In a separate tirade that was nowhere near as controversial, Cohen poked fun at ABC’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve broadcast, referencing the smoke coming from “Ryan Seacrest’s group of losers that are performing behind us.”
“I mean, with all due [respect], if you’ve been watching ABC tonight, you’ve seen nothing. I’m sorry,” he added.
Rumors began to fly online that Cohen was fired for his comments, but CNN quickly put those to rest, releasing a statement that read: “Andy said something he shouldn’t have on live TV. We’ve addressed it with him and look forward to having him back again next year.”
Cohen later admitted that he was drunk while on the air, and apologized… but only for the comments about Seacrest and ABC.
“I was a hair over-served last night, but man did I have fun! I hope you did too,” he wrote in a post on his Instagram account.
“The only thing that I regret saying, the only thing, is that I slammed the ABC broadcast, and I really like Ryan Seacrest, and he’s a great guy,” Cohen said. “And I really regret saying that, and I was just stupid and drunk and feeling it.”
Cohen also claimed that the situation is being blown way out of proportion.
“The headlines about Ryan Seacrest are all, like, I trash Ryan Seacrest,” he said. “I’m like, I really, I hope he hears the clip. You know what I mean?”
Ryan Seacrest has not commented on the situation.
Many are assuming that the Seacrest comments are being blown out of proportion in the media to distract from the comments regarding former Mayor de Blasio, as he has been discussed as a possible replacement for Joe Biden in the 2024 presidential race, and the Democrat-run media does not want any more bad press for possible Democrat candidates.
