On February 9, President Donald Trump will become the first sitting president to ever attend the Super Bowl, the biggest sporting event in the United States.
Super Bowl LIX will take place at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles. New Orleans officials reportedly expect to have roughly 125,000 visitors for the event, who will begin arriving on February 5. The Super Bowl will feature rapper Kendrick Lamar performing at the halftime show, as well as Jon Batiste singing the “Star-Spangled Banner” and Lauren Daigle singing “America the Beautiful.”
According to a White House official who spoke with CNN, Trump is expected to attend the event with multiple high-profile guests, including Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA).
The Super Bowl was already expected to have heightened security because of the terrorist attack that took place on Bourbon Street in New Orleans on New Year’s Day — where a radical Islamic terrorist killed 14 people by driving his truck through a crowd — but the security will be strengthened even more now because of Trump’s attendance.
Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem traveled to New Orleans on February 3 to assess the preparation for the Super Bowl and to visit the site of the New Orleans terror attack alongside Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry (R).
While visiting the city, Noem appeared at an NFL public safety press conference — where she told the media that “there are no credible threats” on the DHS’ “radar” regarding the Super Bowl.
“The world is a much more dangerous place, but here in the homeland, we are safe, and I will tell you that right now we have no specific credible threats to this event at the Super Bowl, which I think should give us all a sense of security, but also knowing we will adjust that as needed,” Noem said during the press conference.

This is not the first sporting event that Trump has attended, as he is often seen at UFC fights, and also attended several college football games and an NFL game. Back in December, before taking office, Trump also attended the Army-Navy game.
