One of the top Senators on the Republican side of the aisle is about to step down.
Senator Ben Sasse (R-NE) should be giving up his seat by the end of the year.
Sasse will reportedly be installed as the next president of the University of Florida.
Stunning Announcement
The announcement caught everyone by surprise.
For one, Sasse has no affiliation whatsoever that I know of with the University of Florida.
Yet, he is the lone finalist in the search.
I should note that Sasse is more than qualified for the position, having served in leadership roles at the University of Texas and Midland University.
Sasse announced this on Twitter, writing, “UF is the most important institution in the nation’s most economically dynamic state.
“Washington partisanship isn’t going to solve these workforce challenges – new institutions and entrepreneurial communities are going to have to spearhead this work.
“If UF want to go big, I’m excited about the wide range of opportunities.”
Sasse has been considered a major disappointment by many conservatives who had high hopes when he first took office.
Nebraska does have a Republican governor, so we can expect another Republican to be appointed to fill the seat once Sasse leaves.
