As the dust settles following Wednesday’s chaos, attorney Sidney Powell has the spotlight shining right on her. The former assistant U.S. attorney and her pet Kraken have been targeted with a massive $1.3 billion defamation suit. This promises to be one of those cases where every set of eyes in America will be glued to the media coverage. President Donald Trump’s entire legal team has some serious explaining to do.
Powell under pressure to prove her claims
President Donald Trump relied on the legal advice of Sidney Powell and her associate Lin Wood, along with that of former New York Mayor and attorney Rudy Giuliani, in making decisions which affect every American, not just his disappointed patriotic followers.
The whole team swore up and down that they have solid evidence to prove their claims. Well, now is the time to pull it out and stack it up.
The move was widely expected but on Friday, Dominion Voting Systems officially declared war by filing a massive $1.3 billion dollar defamation suit naming Sidney Powell specifically. Separate suits are still waiting in the wings.
Along with litigation against Powell, the company sent warning letters to the White House, media companies, and various other individuals.
As related by Forbes, the letters went out to “the White House, Fox News, Newsmax, One America News and a number of Trump-allied individuals, including his lawyer Rudy Giuliani, Rush Limbaugh, Fox News personalities Sean Hannity and Maria Bartiromo, conservative attorney Lin Wood and Melissa Carone.” Carone is a witness who Rudy Giuliani has been relying on.
She didn’t act alone
The opening paragraph of the litigation spells out that Ms. Powell had lots of help spreading around her claims. They call them bogus and it’s up to her to prove them wrong. She should know quite well that you don’t make unfounded accusations without facing consequences.
She has heavy credentials, and so do Lin Wood and Rudy Giuliani. That’s the only reason everybody, including the president listened to what they had to say. We all had good reason to believe that when they said they have evidence, they really have evidence. Dominion calls them liars. One of the parties is wrong. Whichever one it turns out to be deserves serious repercussions indeed.
Lin Wood is a specialist in defamation suits and has already announced that he will represent his colleague in the Dominion matter. According to the lawsuit, Powell lied at a Washington, D.C. press conference, a Georgia political rally, and in a media blitz when she “falsely claimed that Dominion had rigged the election, that Dominion was created in Venezuela to rig elections for Hugo Chávez, and that Dominion bribed Georgia officials for a no-bid contract.”
Those particular allegations, the company insists, are “demonstrably false.” It’s up to the Defendant to get her Kraken to cough up the proof. Otherwise she’ll be pushing a shopping cart down the street with whatever worldly belongings the bankruptcy court leaves her with.
Of course, the company paints the picture in their lawsuit that they are all sweetness and light and wouldn’t dream of designing technology which would work to put a thumb on the scales of justice by rigging an election.
Anyone who has any experience with the legal system knows that there is the Plaintiff’s story, the Defendant’s story, and the Truth. Somewhere between what Dominion and Sidney Powell have to say, is the truth. Americans are watching extremely close to find out the truth, which will still be quite interesting no matter where it falls in the middle.
