A very popular Democrat in Tennessee politics has passed away.
Former State Rep. Roy Herron died after sustaining injuries earlier this month.
He was only 69 years old.
Active in the Community
Herron was not only active in the community, but he was also known to be active on the local athletics scene.
He had competed in dozens of marathons and ultra-marathons.
Sadly, Herron had an accident on a jet ski earlier this month and had been transported to the Henry County Medical Center.
The injuries were so extensive, he was later transferred to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, but he eventually succumbed to the injuries.
His wife announced his death, stating, “Roy loved his family with all his might.
“He passed doing what he loved most — spending time with our sons and their friends in the Tennessee outdoors where his spirit was always most free.”
After serving more than two decades in local politics, it was no surprise to see people on both sides of the aisle pay tribute to him.
Among those was former Republican U.S. Sen. Bob Corker, who stated, “In the mid-90s, we ran many miles together always intensely discussing our points of view on policies relating to Tennesseans, our families, and our beliefs.
“While we differed at times, I always respected him and enjoyed our many hours together.
“My heart goes out to his family whom I know will miss him greatly.”
