The timing of this attack against a Chicago police officer could not have summed up the reign of Lori Lightfoot any better.
The polarizing mayor had just lost her re-election bid, finishing third, and missing the runoff election largely due to the crime issues in the city.
Lo and behold, an officer was murdered the day after the election, proving the citizens of Chicago had made the right decision.
Tragedy Strikes
Wednesday afternoon, local police received a call of a man chasing a woman with a gun.
When the police arrived at the home, one of the officers spotted the man and woman and went in pursuit.
The alleged shooter, Steven Monanto, turned and fired on the officer.
He was also shot in the exchange.
The Chicago Police Department stated, “Earlier today, we lost one of our own.
“An on-duty police officer was fatally shot while responding to a person with a gun call.
“Please pray for this officer’s family, loved ones, partner and all of our Chicago Police officers who are grieving this tremendous loss.”
Lightfoot added, “This is a terrible tragedy for our city and we are mourning along with the officer’s family.”
We can only hope that whoever wins the runoff takes a much harder stance against crime and gets the city turned around.
