We’ve all seen it. Democrats love to take even the most mundane of issues and turn them into an issue about racism.
Recently, former President Barack Obama did exactly that when he commented on the coverage of the tourist submarine headed towards the Titanic wreck, compared to a migrant ship that sank off the coast of Greece.
His comments were indicative of his party’s tendency to make everything into an issue of inequality and racism in America.
Obama wasn’t happy with how much attention the OceanGate sub was getting in comparison to the tragedy involving 700 migrants who had died at sea.
He said that this showed “obscene inequality,” and went on to criticize mainstream media outlets for their lack of coverage related to immigration issues occurring in our country today.
It’s difficult to factually prove either way whether this claim holds any weight or not however, it’s fair to say that mainstream media has long failed to cover immigration issues adequately in this country – indicating that maybe there are underlying biases at play here.
When you look at how much more coverage was given to the OceanGate sub compared with 700 people who had died – despite both being tragedies – then it does raise some serious concerns over how we value human life in modern society.
It is clear from Obama’s comments that there is an obvious imbalance between what gets covered by news outlets versus what doesn’t get any attention.
Ultimately though, this could just be another case of political bickering where nothing gets resolved as neither side can ever make each other happy, yet still feeding into an increasingly divisive debate in America today.
