The last time a Republican lived in the governor’s mansion in Oregon, it was January 12, 1987.
That was the day that Victor Atiyeh moved out and Neil Goldschmidt moved in.
Since then, Democrats have owned the state, but that may be about to change.

In a truly shocking Emerson College poll, state House of Representatives Christine Drazan, a Republican, is leading former Democratic Speaker of the Oregon House of Representatives Tina Kotek by two points in the gubernatorial race.
A distant third is Independent Betsy Johnson.
Drazan is leading 36-34-19, respectively…

There are still nine percent undecided, and Johnson could drop out of the race, so I don’t want to get too ahead of myself here.
Drazan is hitting all the key issues, however, including homelessness and violent crime.
She stated, “An emergency declaration is a powerful tool we need to help homeless Oregonians.
“We should’ve done this a long time ago, but my Democrat opponents have failed to come through for Oregon families. It’s time for a new direction.”
If the GOP takes this state, where Democrats dominate the state legislature, it will shock the entire Democrat Party.
Of course, the challenge for Drazan will be to get a partisan legislature to work with her.
