Ukrop is one of the premier food processing businesses within Richmond and Midlothian, Virginia, but they were on the scene of an explosion at their commercial bakery that left two injured last Tuesday night.
Henrico County first responders were dispatched to a fire at 2001 Westmoreland Street just after 6 p.m. last Tuesday. After they arrived, they discovered there was a fire that was now no longer active.
The firefighters took several statements, and two of the workers said that they were doing maintenance work on an oven when they were overcome by an overpowering aroma of gas.
The workers opened up the oven in order to investigate the smell, and that is when there was a jarring explosion that injured both of the employees.
Fortunately, the injuries they sustained were not life-threatening. They were transferred to VCU where their faces were given medical attention.
Henrico County is home to just over 334,000 people, and it is home to many different industries, including several dozen bakeries.
That is one of the main reasons why a lot of credit has to go out to the first responders of Henrico County.
