A popular Nashville restaurant has officially closed its doors after the owner was murdered by an illegal alien during an attempted robbery.
After 10 years in business, Smokin’ Thighs closed its doors for good earlier this month after the owner, 42-year-old Matt Carney, was killed during an attempted robbery in the parking lot of the popular chicken restaurant and bar on June 19.
Carney’s wife revealed in a social media post that Smokin’ Thighs, which began as a food truck and later became a beloved restaurant in the Nashville community, had closed.
“Saying goodbye is hard. It’s really hard,” Molly Carney wrote in the post. “It is with profound sadness that I share the time has come for us all to say goodbye to Smokin’ Thighs.”
“To the Nashville community, I’ll be forever grateful for your welcoming spirit of Smokin’ Thighs. Your unwavering support of our family, particularly in these past months, has been remarkable,” she added. “Without you Matt’s dream would never have become a reality.”
The incident began when a pair of illegal aliens — later identified as 29-year-old Ulises Martinez and 31-year-old Adrian Diaz-Aguirre — saw a truck filled with power tools in the parking lot of Smokin’ Thighs and began stealing the tools. Carney attempted to intervene to stop the robbery, prompting the illegal aliens to try to drive away. According to testimony from Nashville Police Homicide Detective Tyler Manivong, Diaz-Aguirre was heard telling Martinez to “go, go, go,” and “so he accelerated.”
Carney was reportedly thrown off of the hood of the truck and into the street when the vehicle sped away, causing him to bleed heavily before he was rushed to the hospital and later died of his injuries on July 4.

Martinez later admitted to police that he had hit Carney with his Nissan Frontier during the attempted robbery. He was charged with murder a few days after the incident after being arrested at a Nashville motel. ICE has since confirmed that Martinez illegally entered the country at an unknown date and location, while Diaz-Aguirre has been deported four times and has several prior criminal convictions. Martinez also had prior run-ins with the law, including vehicle theft and tool theft, but his charges were dismissed by a Nashville judge due to supposed lack of probable cause.

Carney’s tragic death was previously mentioned by former President Donald Trump during a rally in Montana, where he discussed rising crime committed by illegal aliens.
“Look at what’s happening to our cities. Our cities are being overrun,” Trump said. “On July 4th, a 42-year-old Nashville man died after he tried to stop an illegal alien from stealing tools out of his truck. The illegal alien did a number on this man that nobody could even believe. The police officers said [it was] one of the most vicious crimes they’ve ever seen.”
