Michelle Obama is now speaking out about the Capitol Protests last year and she now claims that she has 31 organizations that are in agreement.
Now that it has been over a year since our Capitol was attacked during these protests, many main stream media channels have claimed that GOP members on all levels of government appear to be working to install a slow-motion coup with Donald Trump supporters in office.
Meanwhile, the Democrats are busy trying to convince Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Krysten Sinema (D-AZ) into passing a couple of voting rights bills.
This is where former First Lady Michelle Obama comes in. She tweeted last Sunday that she and the rest of the Democrats are doing everything in their power to cut the GOP and other Trump supporters off at the pass.
Michelle Obama tweeted that it had just been one year since the Capitol building was breached by supporters of Trump who believed that the election had been stolen from their candidate. Michelle Obama said that the Democrats were fighting back, and she listed 31 voting organizations that were supporting these activities.
Then, Obama talked about what an individual can do:
‘PROTECTING IT REQUIRES ALL OF US. THAT’S WHY HIS GENERATION ORGANIZED, MARCHED, AND DIED TO DEFEND THE VERY RIGHTS THAT ARE UNDER ATTACK TODAY. AND IT’S WHY WE’RE CALLING ON COMMUNITY LEADERS, ORGANIZATIONS, BUSINESSES AND ALL AMERICANS TO JOIN OUR EFFORTS IN THIS CRITICAL MOMENT FOR OUR HISTORY AND THE FUTURE OF OUR COUNTRY. ‘
Her tweet explained that the Republicans have been committed to making it “harder to vote:”
‘IN 2020, MILLIONS MADE THEIR VOICES HEARD AT THE POLLS. BUT NOW, FOLKS WHO OPPOSE THAT PROGRESS ARE MAKING IT HARDER TO VOTE. THAT’S WHY I’M ASKING YOU TO JOIN @WHENWEALLVOTE AND 30 OTHER ORGANIZATIONS TO TURN OUT MORE VOTERS AND URGE CONGRESS TO PASS VOTING RIGHTS LEGISLATION.
Mrs. Obama wrote this:
‘CHECK OUT OUR LETTER PUBLISHED IN THE NEW YORK TIMES ON SUNDAY, JANUARY 9 CALLING ON OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS TO PROTECT THE RIGHT TO VOTE.’
While it’s definitely good that Michelle Obama is concerned with getting out the vote, there is no question that the Republicans would disagree with her motives for doing so, that is for sure.
