House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has a bit of a cloud hanging over his head.
Trump’s enemies are tagging him as a lap dog for Trump and the members of Congress that support Trump.
To that point, McCarthy was recently accused of making a backroom deal with Trump, but McCarthy says that is all nonsense.
Just Not True
There have been rumors that in order to get Trump’s endorsement, McCarthy had to make some pretty big promises to Trump.
One of those was that McCarthy would have Trump’s impeachments scrubbed from House records.
McCarthy says that is not so.
When asked about it, McCarthy flat-out stated, “There is no deal.”
This all came about via a Politico report that hinted McCarthy would be making this move before August recess.
With only a few weeks left before the recess, I guess we are about to find out of Politico is publishing well-researched stories or water-cooler gossip.
Honestly, it would not surprise me to see such legislation hit the House floor, if not from McCarthy, from a member of the House Freedom caucus.
With there still being a contingent of Trump haters in the GOP House, I do not have much faith that such an effort would be successful with the thin majority that the GOP currently has.
