An illegal alien from Cuba, Alexis Saborit, was found not guilty of first-degree premeditated murder for the killing of America Thayer.
Saborit had been charged with the crime in May 2021 and Judge Caroline Lennon overturned the ruling last week on account of his mental illness leaving him unable to understand that his actions were wrong.
On July 28th, 2021 police were called to investigate an intersection where someone had allegedly thrown a woman’s head out of a vehicle.
When they arrived at the scene they found Thayer’s body lying on the ground next to her decapitated head and a sheath for a large knife nearby.
The investigation revealed that Saborit had laughed as he told his friend days before that he was going “to chop her f—ing head off” because Thayer was planning to leave him.
The defense claimed that Saborit should be acquitted due to a traumatic brain injury caused by a car crash in 2017 which resulted in delusions and hallucinations.
Charles Thayer, America’s son, expressed confusion at how this could result in an acquittal after it had been determined that there was clear motive behind the murder and evidence of prior abuse documented by police calls made over many years.
He stated his desire for closure so he can move forward with his life and heal from this tragedy with his family.
This verdict has left many people questioning what kind of world we are living in today where you can commit cold-blooded murder yet still be considered insane due to mental illness.
