Major oil corporation Exxon Mobil has quite a scandal on its hands now. Shocking news has just come out of Texas, as company executive David Scott was arrested and charged with sexual assault.
This news has stirred the pot for many, as it involves an important figure within the company and a criminal investigation that must take place.
On Thursday morning, October 5, David Scott – the head of Exxon’s shale oil business – was arrested at La Quinta Inn & Suites hotel in Magnolia near his company’s headquarters in Spring, Montgomery Sheriff’s Office said.
The 49-year-old married senior vice president was reported by one of the two women he was with after she left $109-a-night room and called police from the lobby according to a hotel worker who saw a security video. He faces a second-degree felony assault charge and was released on a $30,000 bond, according to jail records. Convictions on such felonies carry anywhere from two years up to 20 years in jail here in Texas.

In response to this incident ExxonMobil has confirmed that they have suspended Mr. Scott pending further criminal investigations which could take several weeks or even months as authorities work diligently to get answers regarding the situation. It is expected that all evidence collected will be presented before any decisions are made about how or if charges will be pressed against him, although these types of cases are typically hard fought battles between prosecutors and defense attorneys representing both sides throughout court proceedings if necessary.
As for Mr. Scotts role within ExxonMobil during merger talks with rival Pioneer Natural Resources which could value them at about $60 billion, there has been no comment other than from those familiar with the matter who say he wouldn’t necessarily be involved in such negotiations.
Scott holds a position as senior vice president of shale operations since 8 months ago with an estimated salary up to $520,000 per year according to his LinkedIn profile where he states he has worked with them for 26 plus years spanning multiple oil and gas projects around the world.
