Having the sitting VP cast the deciding vote in legislation is not exactly a good thing.
If Democrats continue on this legislative push before mid-term elections, however, Harris could find herself atop the record books for doing just that.
After the latest legislation was passed with Kamala being the tie-breaking vote, she is now only six votes away from the record.
Partisan
Harris has already broken a tie 25 times.
There are now only two names ahead of her in the books.
That would be Vice President John Calhoun, who served from 1825 to 1832, and John Adams, the very first vice president of this country.
Imagine that… a record set 200 years ago that nobody thought would ever be approached again.
Calhoun cast 31 tie-breaking votes during that time.
John Adams, who served as George Washington’s VP, cast 29 tie-breaking votes.
Harris is well ahead of both of their paces, but she realistically only has five more months to ram through legislation before Democrats lose the House.
Technically, however, she could still easily break the record if the Senate remains split at 50-50 after the mid-term elections.
Every Senate vote counts toward this record, even procedural votes.
With Democrats panicking over losing the House, I will guess that Harris will have this record in hand long before the final vote is counted in the 2022 election cycle.
