Reporters are now calling out Vice President Kamala Harris, the presumptive Democrat presidential nominee, for hiding from the media — as she has not held a single press conference in the ten days since President Joe Biden dropped out of the race and endorsed her.

Biden ended his reelection bid on July 21 and endorsed Harris to take over the campaign a few hours later. Since then, the Democrat Party has rallied around the vice president as their presumptive nominee, despite the fact that she did not receive a single vote in the primary. Many have speculated that this was by design, arguing that Democrats kept Biden in the race just long enough to prevent a spoiler candidate in the primary that would threaten the establishment elite’s power, allowing them to appoint a candidate chosen by the party elite.
However, Harris is notoriously bad at public speaking, as evidenced by her history of “word salads” — which has led many to question the party’s decision to rally behind her as a candidate, wondering whether placing her in the spotlight will lead to even worse gaffes.

It appears that the Harris campaign and the White House are trying to prevent this problem from happening, as she has not held a single press conference in the ten days since becoming the presumptive nominee.
National Review senior writer Noah Rothman was one of the first mainstream media reporters to question this, asking his followers on Wednesday: “When is Kamala Harris going to hold a press conference?”

The official X account for RNC Research also posted about the lack of press conferences, noting that Harris has only done “teleprompter speeches” since becoming the presumptive nominee.

Daily Wire co-founder Ben Shapiro also posted about Harris hiding from the media, explaining that she “has not answered ONE difficult question in the last week and a half.”

Speaking with Fox News, NewsBusters executive editor Tim Graham predicted that Harris will follow the Biden playbook when it comes to hiding from the media.
“Kamala Harris should absolutely hold a press conference. One would expect it when she names her vice-presidential pick. But we cannot expect her to break from Biden’s serial avoidance of press conferences,” Graham argued.
“Since the 2020 campaign, we have witnessed the bizarre spectacle of Donald Trump granting wide access to networks that suggest he’s a fascist and hammer him daily, while Biden and Harris won’t grant interviews to media outlets that gurgle all over them and their ‘historic accomplishments.’ Either they think the press can never be servile enough or they are projecting a complete lack of confidence in their efforts to put complete sentences together,” he continued.
Graham’s argument was exemplified by former President Donald Trump’s Wednesday appearance at the National Association of Black Journalists convention in Chicago, where he responded to claims that he is a “racist” and pointed out that he showed up to the event, while Harris did not.
