Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) has had about all he can take from Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg.
The hush money case was dead in the water when Bragg first took over the office.
In fact, two prosecutors quit because Bragg killed the case.
It was only because Trump declared that Bragg picked the case back up, which is why Jordan wants to investigate him.
Why?
Jordan backed up his intent during a recent Fox News interview.
He stated, “This indictment comes after years of the District Attorney’s office aggressively pursuing charges, with you and other special prosecutors leading the investigation into every facet of President Trump’s finances.
“Last year, you resigned from the office over Bragg’s initial reluctance to move forward with charges in 2022, Bragg is now attempting to ‘shoehorn’ the same case with identical facts into a new prosecution.”
Jordan penned a letter to one of the attorneys that resigned, stating, “In January 2022, soon after Bragg took office, he expressed doubts about President Trump’s case and suspended the investigation.
“This decision caused you and your colleague, Mark Pomerantz, to resign in protest.
“It now appears that your efforts to shame Bragg have worked as he is reportedly resurrecting a so-called ‘zombie’ case against President Trump using a tenuous and untested legal theory.”
Jordan continued, “The facts of this matter have not changed since 2018 and no new witnesses have emerged.
“The Justice Department examined the facts in 2019 and opted not to pursue further prosecutions at that time.
“Even still, according to reporting, the investigation ‘gained some momentum this year,’ and Bragg’s office ‘convened a new grand jury in January to evaluate the issue.’
“The only intervening factor, it appears, was President Trump’s announcement that he would be a candidate for President in 2024.”
I agree with Jordan, but I doubt he will have any luck simply because Congress has no authority over the DAs office.
Unless they do a complete financial audit of the office and are able to somehow prove federal dollars were used in this investigation, which is virtually impossible, nothing can be done.
