On Monday, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre received an undue promotion, failing upward to the position of senior adviser to the president.
Jean-Pierre, who has spent a little over two years failing miserably as press secretary, previously served on the 2020 Biden-Harris campaign as chief of staff for Kamala Harris. She also previously worked on former President Barack Obama’s campaign and in the Obama White House.
Now, she is being promoted to the innermost circle of President Joe Biden’s advisers — which includes Mike Donilon, Steve Richetti, and Bruce Reed. However, she will continue to serve as press secretary alongside the new gig.
“Karine has been a trusted advisor to the President and all of us here at the White House since day one. Her counsel will be critical to get as much done as possible for the American people in the coming months,” said White House Chief of Staff Jeff Zients, according to ABC News.
Jean-Pierre was appointed as White House press secretary in May 2022 after Jen Psaki left the position to join MSNBC as a commentator and later became the host of her own show.

Psaki was routinely mocked on social media for being terrible at her job, but Jean-Pierre’s performance during press briefings was so much worse — as she repeatedly tells easily-disprovable lies and refuses to answer tough questions. Despite being objectively bad at her job, Jean-Pierre has been praised by the Democrats and the mainstream media — not for her talent, but because she is the first black woman and first gay person to serve as White House press secretary.

Many of the most viral clips of Jean-Pierre’s lies showed her responding to tough questions from Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy — including a moment last month where Jean-Pierre defended referring to former President Donald Trump as a “threat’ just two days after the second assassination attempt against the Republican nominee.

Social media users were quick to mock the White House for the unmerited promotion.
“Karine Jean-Pierre was just promoted to Biden’s Senior Advisor. Notice how they waited until the administration was over. This is just so she can now go out and get future jobs with that title on her resume. She won’t advise anything at all. It’s just DEI in action,” wrote commentator Joey Mannarino.
