If a Spammer Calls You, Do THIS

We can all agree it’s incredibly frustrating to receive calls from unknown numbers, only to answer and discover it’s yet another spammer.

And before, the best solution would be to block the numbers or perhaps not answer your phone at the sign of an unknown number.

Well thankfully the Federal Trade Commission has created a one-stop shop problem solver for those pesky spammers: the National Do Not Call Registry.

As the name implies, the Registry was formed to stop unwanted sales calls so you no longer have to worry about being bothered by telemarketers. The best part? This service is completely free is use…just register your number by going to DoNotCall.gov or contacting 1-888-382-1222 by phone.

After registering your phone number, it’s expected that it will show up on the official Registry as soon as the next day, although it could take up to 31 days for sales calls to discontinue. Of course, you can always confirm your number has been added to the Registry by visiting the website or calling the number listed above.

While the Registry cannot stop all calls of course, it makes sure to halt sales calls from real companies by providing them a list of numbers they are not allowed to contact. So the FTC cannot actually block calls and will not be able to stop scammers who ignore the Registry from contacting you.

You can also report unwanted calls to DoNotCall.gov by filling out a form that asks for the number that received the call, the number that appeared on your caller ID as well as exact date and time of call, if possible.

Your registration will never expire, so if you ever decide you want to remove your number from the Registry, call 1-888-382-1222 and your number will be removed the following day.
