It is with a heavy heart that we report on a chilling tale from the sparsely populated Gunnison County, Colorado.
While on a hike, a hiker discovered what authorities described as three “mummified” and “heavily decomposed” people who were likely camping in the area.

Grand Junction television station KREX-TV reported that the Gunnison County Coroner had determined “the three individuals began long-term camping in around July 2022 and attempted to stay through the winter. The coroner thought the deceased campers might have been related, but due to their health, it will be necessary to compare dental records before names and genders are revealed.”
It was further noted by Sheriff Adam Murdie of Gunnison County that there didn’t seem to be any evidence of wrongdoing or foul play at this privately owned campsite located near Gold Creek Campground.
At this site, investigators found “a blue tent, empty food cans, and a lean-to shelter.”
He also suggested that these unfortunate souls may have perished or contributed to their advanced state of decomposition due to several feet of snowfall over last winter season in the region where they were found.
This incident serves as an important reminder that nature should not be taken lightly no matter how beautiful it may appear at first glance.
What happened here will remain unknown without further insight into missing persons reports or additional information about these campers’ identities which won’t be released until next of kin are notified according CBS News reports.
However, one thing is certain: poor planning could have led to such tragedy having occurred here in Gunnison County.
We offer our thoughts and prayers for those affected by this terrible news story.
