Another big sentence came down for a January 6 Capitol rioter.

Peter Schwartz, 49, has been sentenced to 14 years in prison.

This is the longest sentence given to any January 6 defendant to date.

Going to Jail

Federal District Court Judge Amit P. Mehta was the presiding judge that came down with a heavy hand on Schwartz.

Mehta justified the sentence because of Schwartz’s lack of remorse for his actions and previous criminal record.

Schwartz was on trial for attacking officers with a chemical spray and a chair.

He had been charged with three counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, one count of interfering with law enforcement officers during a civil disorder, and one count of obstructing the certification of the election.

His own texts were used against him, where he told friends that he threw “the first chair at the cops” and that he “started a riot.”

His record for the longest sentence may not stand for long, however.

Prosecutors have recommended a 25-year sentence for Oath Keepers Militia leader Stewart Rhodes.
