With Donald Trump having such a huge lead in the GOP primary, it is not exactly a shock that names are being tossed around.
Several sites have published their lists of possible VP candidates.
Most of them are fantasy, so I wanted to take a look at who we believe would provide Trump with most benefits if added to the ticket.
Our Top 3
I think we can rule out Ron DeSantis, as the break between Trump and DeSantis appears to be fairly significant.
Besides, if DeSantis cannot find a way to beat Trump, I think he is perfectly happy riding out his time as governor and taking another shot at it in 2028.
I am also ruling out Rep. Stefanik (R-N.Y.) and Kari Lake simply because I do not think they are a good fit for Trump in this particular environment.
All previous administration officials are out as is the rest of the primary field, save two, which would be Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.) and Nikki Haley.
I am also going to throw Governor Kristi Noem into the conversation.
Tim Scott would appear to be the cream of the crop here, as he would help Trump with the minority vote as well as setting the table for a serious run in 2028. If he is the VP, I believe he and DeSantis are automatically the favorites in the 2028 race.
Nikki Haley is also a strong candidate and she continues to have a decent relationship with Trump.
We have already seen her do some of his dirty work, so we are going to assume that is being done as a backroom deal with Trump in exchange for a high-ranking post, which I believe would be either the VP slot or, more likely, the Secretary of State slot.
That leaves us with Governor Kristi Noem.
The rumors are that Trump wants a female VP, and he could no better than choosing Noem, who would also become a presidential favorite in 2028 if she serves as the VP.
She is a strong conservative and her fights with the Biden administration have risen her profile considerably.
That is my top 3, so what do you guys think?
