Harris Campaign Complains Debate Rules ‘Disadvantage’ Her

Harris Whines Debate Rules Don’t Benefit Her Communist Plans for America

Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign has claimed that the debate rules released by ABC News are specifically designed to ‘disadvantage’ her.

On Wednesday, ABC News announced the finalized list of rules for the upcoming September 10 debate that have been agreed upon by both former President Donald Trump’s campaign and the Harris campaign, albeit reluctantly.

The debate is scheduled for Tuesday and will be moderated by “World News Tonight” anchor David Muir and “Prime” anchor Linsey Davis. The rules implemented by ABC News are the same rules originally agreed upon by Trump and President Joe Biden back in May, when Biden was still running for reelection.

These rules include:

  • Neither candidate will give an opening statement, but each will be allowed a two-minute closing statement.
  • Both candidates will be required to stand behind their podiums for the entire debate.
  • Neither candidate will be allowed to bring props or pre-written notes on stage.
  • Neither candidate nor their campaigns will be given topics or questions ahead of time.
  • Both candidates will be provided with a pen, a blank pad of paper, and a bottle of water.
  • Both candidates have two minutes to answer a question, two minutes for a rebuttal, and one additional minute for follow-ups, clarifications, or responses.
  • Each candidate’s microphone will be muted while the other candidate has their turn at speaking.
  • Neither candidate will be permitted to directly ask the other candidate a question.
  • Candidates are barred from interacting with their staff during commercial breaks.
  • The debate moderators will enforce time limits and ensure a civilized discussion.
  • There will be no audience for the debate.

Previous reports indicated that the Harris campaign was pushing for major changes to these rules, including for both candidates to be seated during the event, allowing them to bring pre-written notes, and allowing open mics.

While agreeing to the debate, the Harris campaign whined about the rules in a letter to ABC News — claiming that the vehemently anti-Trump network, which has consistently defended and praised Harris, was somehow disadvantaging her while helping Trump. The campaign also claimed that the only reason they agreed to these rules was so that Trump would show up to the debate. The specific rule that the Harris campaign took issue with was muted microphones.

“Vice President Harris, a former prosecutor, will be fundamentally disadvantaged by this format, which will serve to shield Donald Trump from direct exchanges with the Vice President,” the letter said. “We suspect this is the primary reason for his campaign’s insistence on muted microphones.”
