Many of Fox’s top brass have been donating generously to Senator Joe Manchin’s (D-WV) campaign lately.
This comes as a surprise, considering Manchin has been vocal in criticizing his Democratic colleagues for their handling of the federal deficit and has frequently appeared on Fox News.
FEC records reveal a notable trend: between April and June, the senator received tens of thousands of dollars from Fox executives and lawyers.
James Murdoch, son of media tycoon Rupert Murdoch, made a contribution to Manchin’s campaign back in 2018.
Since then, other executives from various branches of the company have joined him in donating to the cause.
Jack Abernethy, head of Fox Television Stations, Stephen Brown, another executive from Fox TV, Michael Mulvihill who leads insights and analytics at Fox Sports, Fernando Szew, chief of Fox Entertainment Global, Adrian Farley, digital policy and strategy lead and Jamie Gillespie responsible for government relations at Fox Corporation are amongst some notable contributors who donated amounts ranging from $1-6 thousand dollars respectively.
The political action committee belonging to fox also made a donation this spring adding up to $11,350 in total donations from all sources within the corporation.
Last week Senator Joe Manchin revealed he is “seriously” contemplating becoming an independent due to his dissatisfaction with how both major parties are running Washington DC.
He expressed his views on West Virginia Metro News’ ‘Talkline’ show hosted by Hoppy Kercheval saying that “the brand has become so bad” for both Democrats and Republicans alike.
He feels it necessary to make sure his voice is heard independently without being affiliated with either party if he wants it truly heard on Capitol Hill where he holds a pivotal position due to his thin majority control over Senate votes.
When asked about potential concerns that this might adversely affect President Biden’s bid for reelection, Manchin countered that such uncertainty can’t be predicted since nobody knows exactly how things will turn out.
