After her disastrous handling of the Los Angeles wildfires in January, far-left Mayor Karen Bass is facing a strong recall campaign.
The Los Angeles Times reported that the paperwork to recall Bass has already been filed with the Los Angeles Ethics Commission after an initial filing with the state of California just one week earlier. These filings will allow groups to begin fundraising to add a recall measure to the next ballot.
Bass faced numerous criticisms for her actions during the wildfires, starting with the fact that she was in Africa when the fires initially broke out. The criticism only got worse after reports emerged that the Democrat mayor had cut funding for the Los Angeles Fire Department in the budget passed before the wildfires. These budget cuts came at the same time that Los Angeles firefighters reported not having adequate resources to fight the wildfires.
She also faced criticism after claiming that she had been unaware of how severe the fire weather conditions were before she left to visit Ghana, even citing this claim as part of the reasoning behind her decision to fire Los Angeles Fire Chief Kristen Crowley.
A group named “Recall Karen Bass” has already launched an advertisement campaign to inform voters about Bass’ failures and the need for her to be removed from office.

Nicole Shanahan, a California philanthropist and former running mate for Robert F. Kennedy Jr., is the main funder of the “Recall Karen Bass” campaign thus far.
Shanahan is already advertising the group on social media, highlighting Bass’ other failures, including rising crime.
“Los Angeles has endured enough. Once a city of hope, it’s now overrun with crime, chaos, and suffering,” she wrote. “Today, we begin the effort to revive the City of Angels—for the people. First step: recalling Karen Bass.”

As per usual in California, Democrats are already downplaying the recall effort — as they believe that they are untouchable because Los Angeles and California as a whole are overwhelmingly made up of Democrats. Douglas Herman, Bass’ political strategist, claimed that the recall effort is “nothing more than another extreme right-wing political stunt designed to divide Los Angeles when we need to move forward.”
To trigger a recall election, canvassers must get the signatures of 15% of Los Angeles’ registered voters, which equals roughly 330,000 signatures. They must do this within 120 days of the date that the paperwork is filed.
