X/Twitter owner Elon Musk responded to a post advocating for him to purchase the dying leftist network MSNBC, and he appears to be contemplating the idea.
As reports indicate that Comcast is planning to sell MSNBC amid a severe decline in ratings, many on social media have been wondering what will happen to the failing network and their radical, unhinged hosts. Even hosts on the network have discussed the possibility of the network being sold and them losing their jobs, with “Morning Joe” hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, who are also married, expressing concern about the possibility on their show:
Musk is well known for his assertion that “the most entertaining outcome is the most likely,” and Donald Trump Jr. took advantage of that belief in a post on X requesting that Musk be the one to purchase MSNBC. Several right-leaning figures have also offered their services to work for the potential Musk-owned network, though many were joke offers.
“Hey Elon Musk, I have the funniest idea ever!!!” Trump Jr. wrote, sharing a post from Wall Street Mav that showed the MSNBC logo with a “For Sale: Best Offer” sign along with the caption: “Comcast is putting MSNBC up for sale. CNN just announced massive layoffs coming. Maybe the new owners will figure out that lying non-stop to your audience is a lousy business model.”
Musk responded to Trump Jr.’s post with a simple question that prompted the internet to erupt, asking: “How much does it cost?”

“I mean it can’t be much. Look at the ratings,” Trump Jr. responded.

Many prominent commentators flocked to Musk’s response post to offer their services on the network, whether satirically or truthfully, and to suggest potential new hosts to replace MSNBC’s current ones.
“Alex jones hosting would be the most entertaining outcome,” wrote podcaster Tim Pool.

“If you guys need a replacement for Rachel Maddow, I know a guy,” wrote The Daily Wire’s Michael Knowles, seemingly referring to the widespread joke on the right that Knowles looks a little bit like Maddow.

“If you buy MSNBC I would like Rachael Maddow’s job. I will wear the same outfit and glasses, and I will tell the same lies,” legendary comedian and podcast host Joe Rogan replied.

“Can I put my hat in the ring to host Morning Joe please?” comedian Russell Brand chimed in.

Others floated the idea of hiring former Fox News host Tucker Carlson for the primetime slot on MSNBC.
“If Elon Musk and Donald Trump Jr. buy MSNBC… Should they hire Tucker Carlson as the Primetime Host?” asked bodybuilder Ian Jaeger.

Many pointed out the similarities between Musk and Trump Jr.’s conversation and the conversation that reportedly started Musk’s journey to purchase X (then-Twitter).
In December 2017, Musk posted “I love Twitter,” prompting a response from libertarian comedian Dave Smith, which read: “You should buy it then.”
“How much is it?” Musk responded at the time.

He ended up buying the social media platform back in 2022, and now many are asking: Could this situation happen again with MSNBC?
