Donald Trump wanted a special master, and he just got one.
Judge Cannon has agreed to appoint a special master to review documents taken by the FBI during the Mar-a-Lago raid.
This could be a game changer for Trump if the special master finds more privileged information in the document haul.
Big Win for Trump
Trump has wanted a special master right from the outset.
The DOJ pushed back immediately, but Judge Cannon seems to think this will do no harm.
The order stated, “The Court hereby authorizes the appointment of a special master to review the seized property for personal items and documents and potentially privileged material subject to claims of attorney-client and/or executive privilege.”
The second part of the order was also a big win for Trump.
It stated, “Furthermore, in natural conjunction with that appointment, and consistent with the value and sequence of special master procedures, the Court also temporarily enjoins the Government from reviewing and using the seized materials for investigative purposes pending completion of the special master’s review or further Court order.”
This means the DOJ investigation is basically halted while the sides agree to a special master.
They then must wait for the entire review to be completed before moving forward.
