One of the big concerns for the DeSantis camp was him being able to remain governor while running for president.
Florida legislators, on the chance that DeSantis loses, did not want to lose him as governor.
So, last week, the legislators put forth legislation to clarify that DeSantis does not have to resign in order to run for office.
He’s Good
Republicans in the state legislature stated that DeSantis was never required to resign for running for president.
They claim that while the language may have been confusing, that office was not included in the resign to run legislation.
Republican Senate President Kathleen Passadomo stated, “If an individual who is Florida governor is running for president, I think he should be allowed to do it.
“I really do.
“That’s a big honor and a privilege, so it is a good idea.”’
Democrats did not agree.
Democratic state Sen. Shevrin Jones stated, “This is not just a clarification, this is an intentional move to curry favor.
“You’re not doing this because it’s the right thing to do. You’re doing it because you can.”
In this case, I happen to agree.
We have already seen how many problems have popped up when DeSantis was on the road for his book tour, so imagine what that will be like for a full year on the road campaigning.
If I were DeSantis, I would resign anyway, just to show his commitment to both the state of Florida and his election campaign.
